I believe that therapy is a process of growth and self-discovery. Our work is an affirmative process - your identities, your experiences, matter to me.

For many clients, their sense of self has been invalidated. This can create distance between us and our relationships as we decide if the next person we invite into our world is safe. I believe that you are worthy and deserving of loving relationships - with yourself too!

My approach:

Finding the right therapist for you is an important part of your wellness journey. In life and in the therapy room, I practice solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT). SFBT is a well-researched and efficacious model that focuses on your preferred future. SFBT does not ignore our past but changes how we relate to our past experiences by shifting the language we use to describe them. I also practice affirmative therapy that celebrates multiple identities (e.g. race, religion, LGBTQIA+, ethnicity).

My background:

I completed my Doctorate in Couple, Marriage, & Family therapy at Texas Tech University. I earned my Master’s of Science in Couple, Marriage, & Family Therapy from Texas Tech, as well as my Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a concentration in Child Life Specialty. I am an advocate for marginalized communities and make it a priority in my work to give back through research, presentations, legislation, and volunteer work. I am a child of addiction and our family continues the journey through relapse, recovery, and healing.

My earliest clinical experience involved establishing a grant-funded mental health clinic in partnership with a local hospital in a rural community outside of Lubbock. This clinic served families, couples, and individuals in a collaborative setting that otherwise would not have the means to mental healthcare. Additional clinical experiences include work in pediatric intensive care units and oncology. My research has been published and presented in national and international platforms. My research includes sexual and gender minority identity, suicide and crisis intervention, technology platforms, and chronic illness. Other clinical/research experiences include book chapters, guest lectures, and community programs.

Though Denver, CO is my home, I was born and raised in Lubbock, TX. I usually spend my time checking out the beautiful murals that flood the streets of Denver, by playing the piano or enjoying a long bike ride on the trails. I am the proud dad of a foster cat, Ricky Martin, who keeps me company while I work from home.

Now - let’s get to work, friend.
